  • Blown engine???

Own a 93 2.4 surf. About 6 months ago the heater matrix went, major job to replace so bypassed. Recently though been losing coolant again. The other night set off and noticed temperature off scale after about 10 miles. Pulled into garage, topped up with some water. Didn't trust car to make rest of journey set off home. No Turbo light, red check engine light came on, should have pulled over straight away, carried on a couple of miles before engine cut out and cruised to a halt in a cloud of steam and blue smoke.

Is it likely to be the turbo or whole engine that is blown, any idea of repair costs??

You'll only know if you pull the head off and have look a look at the bores and head.

Thanks for advice but doesn't soundlike a job for me!

Been out and had first look under bonnet since the tow home. Doesn't look busted, but oil has come down the back of the engine from somewhere and formed a patch on the floor. Oil level looks fine though. Filled water up. Out of curiosity and vague hope turned engine over. Really sluggish and the nly sign of life seamed to be a splattering of carbon deposits out of the exhaust.

Is it really worth getting it towed some where for a diagnosis or will this be worth it? Does anyone know anywhere around Burton on Trent that could help?

At present thinking it may only be worth selling for spares.
