He he, well in this case the winner gets the kudos and maybe gets to fix up the car!!
The estimate given by the repairers to the insurance company was £4300!!!!
I can't quite believe it to be honest. I can't get more details before Monday, when I can speak to the engineer (actually that's optimistic). I did check underneath and couldn't see anything badly bent, or bent at all in fact.
Ho hum.

Well the response from the engineer is that the car has damage to all sorts of bits, suspension and steering included. He sounded reasonable enough but went to great pains to tell me that the car was not economically repairable. This niggles me, as I just can't see that being the case.
The quote £4300 breaks down into £2300 for parts, £1000 labour and £300 for painting, plus the VAT.
Has anyone ever gone the route of buying the salvage and getting it repaired? The engineer told me (in no uncertain way) that the car would have to be registered as written off with the DVLA. I would then need a new MOT, VIC (some sort of certificate) and a full independent engineers report. I would have to reregister it with the DVLA. So no doubt all that costs a bit.
Well, just thought I'd run it past you guys in case you ever knew of anyone who'd been in this position. Thanks for any feedback, really liked this car

VIC - i think is about £30 it's just an identity check to make sure the vehicle's what you say it is.
I assume the engineers report is if it's been written off to confirm it's been repaired properly.
Re-registration i don't think costs much, but i don't know for sure.
I can't see that it needs to be registered with DVLA as a write off unless it's got major structural damage, i'd ask for a second opinion if your insurance company will let you.

I got the repairs done. Then I had to take it to a VOSA testing station to get the vehicle idenity check (VIC) done. I then got the MOT done. Got the truck insured. And because I was too impatient to wait for the DVLA to send out my v5, I went with VIC, MOT and insurance certificate to the DVLA and got my tax. You need to reapply for the V5 too. This was about a year ago so I guess that it should be the same.
In terms of costs, It cost me less than £50 to get the repairs done, less than £50 to get the VIC done, standard MOT cost and get this, you don't even have to pay for the new V5 because it was a cat C write off.
