  • Flushing the rust

Hey been awhile since i've been on here,
Trying too flush the system from rust and then give it a good dose of antifreeze ready for the cold, thing is i've got the mechanical knowledge of a blind nat...so first port of call was to come here

Anyone got a guide too how to flush the engine (for idiots)

    Thanks

    Hello,

Your best bet will be to get the bottom hose off the rad - unfortunately its behind the air con radiator which sits under the engine.

Bash plate off, loosen and lower the air con rad (don't disconnect any hoses) and get to the radiator hose.

Alternatively, take the hose off the lower rhs of the radiator - and take the top hose off - shove your hose pipe into the top radiator hose and blast away - most sediment (if you have any) will tend to collect in the radiator.

Also, take the thermostat housing and thermostat off, and blast the hose pipe down there before reconnecting the other pipes.

Lots of advise on how to refil the system elsewhere on the site.

Hi Dude, I did my surf the other day . I removed top hose and seperated heater hose from control valve on bulkhead. Make sure heater knob inside car is in hot position and attached hose pipe to heater valve (not too fierce a flow) randomly plug any two orfices untill clean water flows and continue with all of them the same way. I always leave heater pipe off when filling with water to allow any trapped air to exscape and only connect them when water appears at the filler on the thermost housing. This is a lot easier than taken off the bottom hose and if your not happy with the results drive around for a couple of days and do it again. Caution make sure the engine has cooled be for flushing though. This is my trusted method it also cleans out the cylinder block and heater. Oh forgot, I get my wife to put her hands over the orfices its easier and quicker and no you can't borrow her . Good luck.
