  • Heads - New or Recon ???

    Hi all....

Well there comes a time in every 2.4td Surf's life when it needs it's head examined.

My time is tomorrow morning at the garage around the corner.

Now, I'm almost certain a head will be required. You guys 'in the know' have sworn by UK Cyl Heads, and they have offers on the 2.4 unit

What is the advantage of a brand new head as opposed to a recon'd one ? Theres almost £200 in it between the two.

    HELP ???

    Ems & Jim.

New one will be the modified design, recon will most likely not be so you are possibly going to have a problem down the line.

    Cheers

        Jim,
I dont want to sound like a scaremonger, but I am speaking form very recent experience,( which I will probably go into in more detail when I feel up to writing the full story) What I advise you to do is have the engine block examined thoroughly whilst your head is off. Might save you future problems.

          Pete,

Your timming is impecable..... Just been to the garage, looked at the porous mess around cylinders 3 & 4, then spotted the 'almost' hole in the bore of number 4.... then came home, had a stiff drink or 12 and rang Chris to see if he still had an engine for sale !

Yes I know its second hand, with very little history or provenance, but it has come from an un-prepped crash damaged car..... looks in good order and sounded sweet ( as mine did last Sunday )

Sooooo, you pays yer money and takess your choice - and pray you're buying off a nice bloke - eh Chris !!!!!!!!!!!
