  • Owner manual//// the turbo light??

Kay I am a very proud new owner of a 90' green 2door 2.4,, I want to lift the back end no more than an inch and a half to give it the stealthy look,,,so what kind of springs do I get? I need to get my hands on an owners manual ,,, where?? and lastly the turbo lights on the tach,,, are they temperature sensors? becuase the green light does not come on unless i accelerate upwards of 2500 rpm and i could have sworn it was always poppin on when I first got the girl,, so how do I service the turbo???

You can't do much to the turbo, its either working or not. If its not the truck will make oil smoke and run pants. You could check the pressure relief valve is working OK, and the vacuum hose across the top is OK.

The green light is the boost pressure light, when the turbo is on full boost the light comes on, normally around 2000-2500ish rpm, depends on how hard your pressing the throttle.

The red light is overboost light and engine check light, you shouldn't see it come on while driving

You want new rear coils to hoik the rear up, either heavy duty normal lenght, +2" lift HD coils or Land Cruiser coils for about 3" lift.

Any springs that fit a US 4Runner will fit your Surf.

I know this is an old thread but trying to find answers. Is the adjustable screw and lock nut under the vacuum assy on the near side a way of ajusting the time the turbo kicks in? if not what is it for please. I am trying to get the turbo to come on at higher revs so it will not be on when I am doing 60+ mph
      cheers

The turbo dont give a monkeys what speed you are doing. It has no idea about the speed of the vehicle. The turbo will come in at a certain amount of engine revs.. The adjustment you are refering to is probably on the actuator and to an extent controls the amount of boost rather than when it kicks in. This is powered by engine vacuum. I wouldnt mess with it you wont notice any difference really. The system is designed to operate at its best as it is. Leave it alone coz if it aint broke dont try and fix it !

It has worked, the boost was kicking in and I had boost on all the time when crusing at 50mph now I can sit at 60mph with no boost yet still the boost works when i give a bit of throttle, it also has stopped the hot start issue but it has caused a small amount of diesel knock due to mixture so I need to adjust the fuel and air mix now to compensate the mixture....how do I do that? at the pump? cheers

If you absolutely genuinely feel the need to keep digging, search the forum for 'thimble' and you will information on how to adjust the fuel pump.

My personal advice would be that you take the truck to a reliable mechanic with a good sense of humour and explain what you've been up to so he (or, indeed, she) can put it right.

lol, yeah you may be right! I had so much smoke coming out this morning from over-fueling and diesel knock that was heard on the moon! I am going to get it properly tuned I agree
