  • ECU Codes, (Nightmare)

Hi folks, I’m hoping someone will be able to give me some pointers, my Surf keeps coming up with the same ECU codes which are 8 & 12 but I can’t find anything wrong with what they say 8 - Intake air temperature sensor / 12 - Timer control valve (Pump), can anyone please shed some light on what might be the problem, as I now have been having problems for nearly a year and getting fffffrustrated.

    Cheers,
    SIMON

      The Problem

The problem started with a cracked cylinder head, the codes have been reset and still the same codes come back only I can't find anything wrong, when the head was changed the vac pipes got mixed up so still not sure if they are on in the right place, checked all electrical connections, OK, but running out of patients fast now.

Whats needed is someone around the Nottingham area who nows what to look for.

        Have a look here...http://hiluxsurf.co.uk/forums/showth...t=vacuum+pipes

there are some diagrams showing the vacuum pipe connections.

What's your truck running like, is it seriously underpowered, or running really rough?

The diagrams on that link are for the 2l-T engine mine is the 2l-TE there is a big difference,

The engine is running about 70% what it was before the head problem, not bad on tootaling about but lacks getup and go on hard acceleration, after sorting out a water leak and resetting the codes I took it for a run and it wasn't until about 30 mins driving and hard acceleration up a hill the engine check light came on again.

OK, the only two suggestions I can come up with, is check the short rubber turbo pressure sensor pipe (coloured red in the third diagram,) is connected and not fallen off or is split.

Second, the timing belt may have jumped a tooth or two on the fuel pump sprocket, this has been known to happen on slack or recently replaced timing belts.

Ok, firstly THE DIAGRAMS ARE FOR A 2L-T ENGINE NOT A 2L-TE THERE IS NO RESEMBLANCE IN THOSE DIAGRAMS.

And as for the timing belt it has been checked, re-checked, then just for good measure it was checked again.

Dude. I know the diagrams are for a 2LT, but the little red pipe will be on your 2LTE!

                    Thank you reply to everyone

Thanks everyone for trying to help but as you probably guessed I’ve had these answers all before but they haven't helped, yes the 2l-TE has a pipe like in the diagram but the thing is has anyone got a diagram or photo of the pipe work on this engine so I can check that they are all in the right place.

I have checked all of these things more than once but still I get the codes 8 & 12 come up, I have even written to Toyota GB only to be told that because it's for the Jap market they don't know and gave me a number of company in London called JEM but on ringing the number it was not recognised nor can directory enquiries find them from their address, so BIG help Toyota GB was.

So I'm still where I was at the beginning can't find why these codes keep cropping up.

All help is VERY MUCH APRECIATED I do assure you all.

                    Thanks

                    Simon (sonicsi)
