  • different engines??

    Hi Surf mechanics!
I have a K reg 2.4 Turbo diesel automatic. The engine went (clunking noise). The garage advised buying a second hand engine. This I dutifully did. When the engine arrived the garage attempted to fit it in the Surf but everythoing is thye wrong way (opposite) around; injectors, exhust manifold etc etc.
Are there two diffent types of engines?
The garage who sold it as a Surf TD Auto., said there is only one type of engine - is this true.
If anyone can help me with this ongoing problem - basically I want me Surf back!!!

      Erm,

If sold as a surf TD it could even be a 3.0 litre engine, methinks clarification as to which surf is needed.

2lt and 2lte are basically the same engine, except the 2lte has electronic controlled fuel delivery.

misterlister, are you sure you were sold a Toyota engine? and that it's a diesel?

Even the 3.0 engine has the manifolds/injectors on the same side as the 2.4.

A EFI motor will work in any 2.4 Surf, a non-EFI block doesn't have a knock sensor fitting so is hard to fit to a EFI truck.

Sounds like that garage has the motor round the wrong way!!

I know of no Surf 2.4 oil burner that has the injectors on the other side of the motor, unless its a petrol EFI 2.4 from a US 4Runner!!!

Tell them the fan goes to the front of vehicle. Seriously, you can't have a 2.4 diesel if it's the wrong way around. Even a 2.8 is the same setup. Got a pic of engine?

Nah, they look the same as a 2.4 from the outside.
