  • Wheres the Jack?!?!?

...ok, many people will chuckle on reading this but i got stranded after some little ***tards decided to smash a vodka bottle under my tyres - on pulling away, the inevitabe BANG and lots of swearing.

Having a look for the Jack and can i find it?! Can i ****! So i had the indignity of having my wheel changed by another bloke - may as well asked him to shag the missus too i felt so demasculated.

    a) where the hell is it - checked under all seats and boot compartments
    b) where can i get a replacement - guessing standard jack from B&Q wont raise it up far enough?

    any clues welcome!

Assuming you have a second gen (you haven't filled in your profile, so we can't be sure), then it should be under the rear passenger side seat base. If it's not there then you are missing a jack. A high lift bottle jack from Halfrauds etc should do the job, but hopefully others will know what sort of lift a jack needs.

You could also get one from Toyota, it'll be the same as the 4Runner, so they should be able to get one... at a price.

I use a trolley jack with no problems.

The jack should be under the passenger side rear seat. Pull the little grey tab to make the seat cushion tilt forward and then lift the flap in the uphosltery and the jack's under there.

Or at least it should be.

Jacks turn up on ebay from time to time.

By the way, I got a puncture on the M25 once and then found out the jack was broken (not my car). I had to hang my head in shame the whole time the nice RAC man was there changing the wheel for me.

You don'st say what year and model yoy have, so for future questions it would be worth adding these details to your profile.

On the 2nd Gen. models there should be a bottle jack beneath a carpet flap below the rear seats. The long handle for this should also be under the rear seats.

As for replacements, your best bet would be breakers yards. You could try EBay, but I have'nt seen them come up that often (could be a long wait).

I have the jack and pole but not the winding handle although I have found a workaround by putting a socket on the end and turning with a breaker bar will do the trick. If anyone has a spare handle I would be interested.

The base of the jack always sticks up, no matter how you put it in. That is why the lid that goes over it is profiled to fit over it. i wrap my jack in a pice of material to stop it rattling in its cubby hole.
                    It's only a hobby!
