  • need to get back on the road

    Dear All

It has been May since I put on a tread about black and brown smoke. I have had the truck sitting in the garden most of the time cos it smokes too much and gives 14miles to gallon give or take. I checked the timming marks and all that other stuff so it looks like I need a new pump can anyone supply me with one. I also need a stainless exhaust system the old ones rotted away.

I pray that the fuel pump will solve the problem the truck runs like a bag of nails, now cuts out when hot, I am getting to the point where I have forgotten why I once liked the thing. Does anyone know of a garage diesel specialist in the Scotland Glagow area who may help.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Regards Highlander1

I cannot thank you enough for the sound advice as I was trying to convince you that I needed a new pump and had tried everything you insisted I should take the truck to a diesel expert so I did 350mile round trip.

I watched the fuel guage go down as I drove down south smoke billowing engine missing like an old tractor on 2 cylinders. The posts I read told me to disconnect the valve on the exhaust manifold which I did.

On my arrival as LSUK having booked in, the senior foreman took one look under the bonnet confirmed that the pump was fine the injectors were ok and tapped yes you've guessed the value on manifold 6 times with a hammer and hay presto no more rough running, no more smoke, more power and a very happy Surf owner.

The gent then gave me his "£47.00s per hour bill" which I paid gladly and drove home. I have since put a clear pipe on the valve and poured in some redex to lean the thing our so far so good.

Steve your a real gent thanks for your persistance you could have and would have been justified in selling me the pump co's that's all I was asking you to do. People like you are hard to find so don't give up your day job.

      Regards another very happy customer.

          Hello,

          What valve on what manifold?

          What is LSUK?

And yes, Stevo is a diety on this site- on his way to becoming ZEUS (God of Gods)

              The EGR valve...

LSUK is Lucas Services UK. Quite handy at all sorts of things to do with Diesels, air conditioning, anything electrical, really...
              It just does, OK?
