Problems cranking her up!!!

Hi guys.
Got this nagging problem starting up the rig. She cranks up after a lot of effort with a heavy clattering noise. Worse still i have to pump the lift pump in the hood all the time before cranking up. Is it an injector problem or is the engine just tired?

Air in the system or glow plugs /relay or bad diesel
