hi guys i did the usual (changed the oil, did all filters, rad cap ect...) when i went to change the thermostat there was not one in the housing. now i am worried that it was done to hide a blown head or could it of been a preventative measure? there is no sign of any milkiness in the oil which i have been told is an indication and i am going to a garage to get an compression test but does anybody have any ideas
    cheers

Good idea, as the standard Toyota temp gauge is more of an 'on off' gauge!

that's about right just under half way is where mine runs.Just keep an eye on the coolant levels for a few days and if no change then the jobs a goodun. If you are worried about the head then carry on and get the test done it aint going to hurt and it will put your mind at ease

            Milky Oil

            HI Drew13

I bought a '93 2.4TD Surf with a blown head(Knowingly) and I found no 'Milky' Oil. When I took the Tappet Cover off not even 'Milky' Sludge on it. When I drained the oil out the sump at first got about 2 litres of water out then oil.

I think a compression test will be more conclusive.

i suppose it depends where the craks are realy!!

milky oil is most common when the head gasket as gone across the water jacket and the oil jacket, although i suppose the same result could be there from a craked head if in the correct place..
