If you say to put the fans on fast you'll have Nev on your case again.....

If it's been stood for a while the thermostat might be jammed up I suppose. But, yeah, like Richard said, flush it through and that.

The fanny magnet doesn't function in the old 2.4s. Not in mine anyway.

Welcome to the mad world of Surfism.

Check the radiator fins for mud too if she has been off road.
              It's only a hobby!

In my 2.4, the fanny magnet drives the Surf.

                  humm, 2 BIG clues!

A cracked head won't normally smoke (apart from white smoke sometimes when starting up) or contaminate the oil.

I'd get the head tested first to save days of messing around trying all the little things.

                      overheating

                      Hi Angry Donkeys,
I think you can safely assume the head is gone and already been confirmed/tested by the previous owner.
Not many people throw money away these days and you aquired the beast at an incredible price! Nevertheless, get the cooling system tested and if the rest of the vehicle is good get a new head and you`ll still have a low investment.
                      cheers,
                      chris

thats what i reckon. i cna do the head myself and im in no rush to do it. so its ok, i just wish the guy had been honest , i asked him outright about it too.
i flushed the rad today. is there a system drain plug? i just took off the bottom hose.
so i let her idle for about 20 mins today with the thermostat out so she ran cool and still loads of pressure immediately in the cooling system and some seems to disappear, no white cloud out the back though. are the head cracks externally visible on them or is it an internal thing? im guessing internal between a valve stem and a water way or something similar.

Something to do with waterways and valves .

Get a head from Stevo and it will never happen again. Probably.
