  • Auto Tranmission help

I need some help - I am not mechanical minded at all so bear with me!!!
I have a 2.4 1991 Auto and a few weeks ago I put my surf into reverse and it wouldnt move!!! Eventually I got it out the driveway and drove down the street to my mechanic. I noticed as I drove it so him it seemed very sluggish and almost like I had the handbrake on!!! So mechanic took out the trans and sent it to a specialist who pulled it to bits and said trans was found to have a fault in the forward clutch drum causing the front clutch not to disengage. So got it back along with the bill (almost $3k NZD arghhhh). Ten days later it did the same thing again - and no I havent paid the bill yet thank god!!! So straight back to the mechanic who passed the whole vehicle onto the trans specialist who has now pulled it apart again and found NOTHING wrong! He has put it back together and it appears to be driving fine but is keeping it for a few days to see how it goes. The second rebuild is of no charge!!! The mech did say he put on a new gasket. So to all you experts out there I would love to hear your thoughts on what it could be. I am so worried it will do it again!!!

Maybe your rear brakes could be sticking, or the filter in the transmission is blocked.
Was the transmission working o.k. when you got the truck back the first time from the garage?

Then it could be an intermittant electrical fault, maybe a sticking of faulty solenoid.
