  • I Just Don't Know What To Do Next!!!

My surf had a new cylinder head, recon turbo, new water pump, new heater plugs, injectors checked, but still runs like a bag of brown smelly stuff, It's a pig to start, black smokes on start up and on acceleration, uses diesel like it's a jet fighter, now it has started flashing on the "CHECK ENGINE" light and looses power when it happens, a slow down turns off the light and as long as you don't push it to hard all is well.

I have tried all the specialists in this area and they either don't want to know or can’t be bothered, can any one suggest somewhere that can sort it I am now getting withdrawal symptoms from not driving it?

Home base is Nott’s but will go any reasonable distance to get it fixed.

Sounds like pump timing out . When fitting the timing belt they can jump a tooth or two .

I aint too sure what the hoses are like on surfs as yet, but i remember doing a landrover disco once with very simular problem. It would not rev over 2500rpm and smoke filling the road. It would not drive over 50mph either. We changed the diesel pump, i took it for a drive, got on the motorway and the same thing happened??? My boss then got on the job. Took the inlet hose to the turbo and found that the inner lining had collapsed!!! But dont know what the hoses are like as i say?

          Thank's Chaps for the replies,

Pump timing! It could not be any more spot on if I had set it wit a microscope.
          Turbo Hoses! All OK

The thing is, I have done everything you would normaly do, but still no joy.

I'd get the compression and valve clearances checked, etc, make sure its mechanically correct first.
