  • Intermittent Problem Update Chuggabug

Update re intermittent problem. Seems as if these little mishaps under my bonnet causing slight misfires have turned out to be a far bigger problem. Yes you've guessed it! We Surfers know all about this problem!!!! THE DREADED HEAD. AARGH!!! Blew its top on the A55 on the way home. There is nothing quite like the sweet smell of antifreeze being injected through the air ducts!!! Looks like its gonna be a trip to Stevo, but not sure yet how to get it there. Or is it time for a new car??? This is serious, I am even thinking I should go back to Land Rovers - they're far easier to work on.

Will let you know the outcome.

I love that smell. Brings back happy memories of French motorways....

From what I've seen on here before, give Stevo a call and he can arrange a transporter. Or fill it back up and just drive real slow with a load of bottles of water in the boot.

Nah, no need. Wimbledon starts next week so that means there will be torrential downpours. Just remove bonnet, expansion bottle and rad caps and drive around in the rain.

dont drive it if the heads gone no matter how much water you carry! it will get in the bores and could lock up the engine, bending or breaking a con rod, at best you could ruin a bore. taint worth it!
            it's in me shed, mate.

Nope, even the repaired ones crack again. It's a design fault within the waterways of the cylinder head.

So how long is the expected life of a head? What does this stevo bloke do to them then?

The new heads are a completely new casting with thicker walls between the combustion chambers. Stevo fits these new heads and bins the old ones I guess.
As for the lifespan of the original head, depends on how the engine was maintained / treated in a previous life , plus bit of luck as well.

                            Thanks all for your replies

As I said thanks for your replies. No point in getting angry, no point in crying it waters down the whiskey!!! Mines being picked up and should be on the way to Stevo's on Monday.
Funny, we all dread it, some have been there, but after 3 of them going you get used to it. Sad innit, but we just love these 4x4.

PS: Rad's f****d, so he's replacing that as well
