  • One flippin thing after another,
As of last night on way to work the surf has decided it does'nt want to clock any milage up now.
Has anybody got an idea whats causing this, the trip one has been playing up for a few months with sticking and now none of them are working
Stuck at 69,999.Thought it might be a cable but speedo working o.k.
    Regards
    Kev.

        • Just spoken to Ron brooks (TOYOTA) dealer.
They sey it sounds like a sensor prob but would need to see to make a diagnosis
          about £130.00 for this sensor.
          Regards

I have the opposite problem, the odometer clicks round o.k., but the speedo needle doesn't move.
I have an electronic speedo, no cable to blame.

            • Phoned a breakers yard today, they only got a set in with over 150,000 on them way tooooooo much
Only fit summat of that milage as a last resort.
Will even consider a brand new set dependent on the price.
will have to wait though as from sat morn i will be heading off to scarborough so if anyone sees a black surf with full bull bars and a bald headed guy in the drivers seat give us a honk lol.

They come up on ebay quite often. You could just get a high mileage one (we are still talking speedos here??) and wind it back. Just stick a drill in the back and away you go.

                  • Whilst i was in scarborough, the 2.4 surf decided to leak diesel/veg not at a fast rate but still a leak.
Leaking more when engine was running.
To tell the story THE WEEK BEFORE OR SO before going away i tried her at a 50/50 mix (27ltrs of each) and i noticed no prob's at all at this ratio.
The day i was supposed to go away i had 1/4 tank left so chucked in another
26 ltrs of veg 2 ltrs unleaded and the rest of the tank to full with diesel.
She seemed fine once running (lumpy start) though.
But yesterday she started to leak.
Now the questions is Have i over done it on the veg, or has a pump seal gone.
                    Regards
                    Kev.

                    • Most likely pump seal.
Although when I was using veg oil last year, I had a leak from the pump, just a small puddle on the drive overnight, but when I went back to using straight diesel the leak stopped!

                      • It does appear to be something that some people suffer from when trying
SVO. It appears that the SVO gives the final kick to already debatable seals.
Switching back to straight diesel usually sorts it. However, it's normally only
the top cover seal that seems to be affected. As the seals are 10+ years
old, it might be worthwhile replacing it regardless. Milner's do the seal kits
                        for a few quid.

But without sounding stupid can somebody point me in the direction of the fuel pump, and how do i replace this top seal
                          Regards
                          Kev.

                          • Follow the pipe from the fuel filter down to the pump on the nearside of
the engine. Some people have changed the top seal in situ. If not, then
                            this way:

                              Thanks m8 found it,
Looks like the leak was from the side of the pump.
On looking at the pictures in the link you sent, it's the big seal that's the problem.
Must addmit though does'nt look that easy to do what with all the pipes in the way.

Recieved a set today off ebay with just under 125,000 on them
But there is no hole for a cable and they look from the front exactley like mine.
