Hi to one and all.
Got a bit of a problem and thought I might check with some of the forum users and see what the consensus of opinion might be.
A while ago the head on my surf went, got a new one, and fitted it ok but it’s just possible that that caused the current problem. maybe the oil or piston rings got too hot or maybe its something else, but the point is that according to the local mechanic it sounds like a big end, little end, or piston / piston rings that have gone. Its making a hell of a racket is down on power, turbo kicking in far too soon and with little effect. According to the mechanic it’s either an engine transplant or an engine rebuild.
What I thought I might gain the opinion of the forum on was will it be worth it?
I don’t mean is the truck worth it that goes without saying cos it’s so cool to drive. What I really mean is on a financial basis, much as I hate to lower the issue to that level, will it be worth it. it seems to me that I could spend an unknown amount of money having the engine stripped, rebuilt, and refitted, spend approximately £1500 - £2000 getting a new / refurbished unit and having it fitted, or I could do the nearly unthinkable and sell the good parts and s$$$$ the remainder. I suppose it comes down to this, what’s the truck worth on the road as apposed to what is it worth as spares or repair and is the difference between them more or less than the probable cost of getting it back on the road?
All thoughts and comments welcome, the truck is a 2.4 1994 in red and grey, pretty good order with a full set of 5 alloys.
Thanks for reading.
