  • What else after the head??

    Hi guys n gals
I fitted a new head from Stevo a year ago, it cooked after 10k, pressure tested,OK, skimmed and refitted. Fine for another 10k+.

Its just started to get warm again, dumped water from the header tank without going above the normal mark.
Flushed the rad with acid, connected it to an old washing machine motor and left it circulating all night (off the truck!).
Just stuck it back in, run it and the rad hoses are going rock hard after a few miles, with and without thermostat.

Gonna get the water checked for gases, when I can find someone in deepest Cornwall to do it.

If me heads gone again, what else can be causin' it, cos I feel like I'm banging me 'ead against me credit card....

    Thanks for your great site

Maybe water pump knackered? or not pumping sufficiently?

      hot again

No the pump appears fine, cap off, stat out, the water is swirling like a rampant plug hole, and level drops when revved

Water flows through the heater system fine, straight from the mains, no drought or hose bans here.....

Anyone got a direct contact for "ukcylinderheads", rumour has it they are based down on the "sunny peninsula" so thought I might shop local, but can't find them on the nerdnet

Could be a blockage in the engine block restricting circulation. Have you tried removing the engine drain plug and flushing through the block? I think the drain off is under the exhaust manifold.

You seem to have traced all the waterways......slap me with a wet fish if I'm going back to the obvious.....have you had a look at your fan or radiator cap?

                          wet fish?

Rad cap was changed with the head, still have an 88 stat- not fitted at mo.
Haven't changed oil in fan thou. Doesn't seem to get hot. Just dumps the water now & then, just like a head crack, but this will be the third time if I lift the head and the prop come back after 10k or so

Have you inspected the block, check the deck for flatness, it could have warped when it overheated, or the the block could be cracked.

I had a truck last year that had small flaws across the block deck, and pressure was getting along these under the gasket and blowing the water out.

You've already fitted the best head you can buy, if you're confident its installed properly you MUST have other issues with the block or other parts of the cooling system.

The Bores had no carbon build up, very little wear lip, and only 4 thou under a straight edge. But as its pressurising the system air must be getting in some where. Gonna try and get the water tested for gases tomorrow, then probably rip it apart again.
Wish me luck.. I'll let u know how it goes....

There has to be a better way
