has anyone done anything to find the cause?

it could be hydrauliced ie bores full of fuel, oil or water.

or could it be a flat battery as the fan belt has come off or alternator goosed

good luck with it hope its not going to be expensive, btw you are on the right site for info

Assuming your truck is an automatic, I hope all four wheels were off the gound when it was towed home!

It could be that the alternator is knackered, the reason all the dash lights coming on and the starter motor clicking due to bad connection or flat batteries.

      Or, timing belt has snapped.

The guy who claimed the engine had seized, how did he check, did he try and turn the engine over by hand with a spanner or socket and bar on the crankshaft pulley?

i persume he did have the clutch pressed down while rocking it if not i could be anything from a sticky brake to a trashed tranny.

If he had the clutch pressed how you tell if the engine is seized by rocking it while in gear?

If you can't turn it on the key, and the engine won't move while rocking the car in gear then something is locked up for sure.

If the tranny was stuffed or brake seized it would still crank over on the key with the clutch in.

Sound pretty serious to me. I'd pull all the V belts off and see it turns, then you need to go deeper. Pull the starter out and check nothings jammed in the flywheel, Then try a big breaker bar on the crank nut.

You can see if the oil is manky or got bits of metal in it, and see if the cam turns, this would rule out top end troubles.

If you remove the cam, you can measure all the valve stem heights and see if any are bent.

Nah, you can leave the rad, but be careful of slipping spanners that could hole it.

You'll need to remove the fan and rad cowl to get to the crank nut if you have the underslung air-con rad.
