  • Rear suspension making 'orrible noises!

    Hello,

I have to drive over a small (3'') kerb to get onto my drive.

The last few days I have noticed a knocking noise coming from the rear suspension when I drive over the kerb or reverse off it - doesn't always do it though.

If it does knock it is just the once (it doesn't keep making the noise).

I have looked for related threads but not found anything (although I do remember seeing something about worn bushes).

The horsey season has just started so I will be towing the horse box a lot over the summer, feeling a worried about towing with this noise.

    Any thoughts?????

Top supects will be Anti-roll bar mounts on axle or broken rear exhaust mount

Then check shock and spring mountings.

      Hi Tony,

Checked the exhaust - that's solid. My mate's got a couple of big jacks so I'll get it up on those to check the anti roll bar mounts.

      Thanks

You don't need a jack..just look underneath at the front of the rear axle..you'll see the anti-roll bar is fitted to the axle by two brackets holding rubber bushes. These brackets break easily if you do a lot of off road work. You can remove the complete anti-roll bar if you go off road a lot. Better axle articulation with it removed. Not an MOT failure to remove it..only fail if it's on there and brackets are broken. You can get the brackets at Roughtrax (handed).

i had a noise when going over small bumps from the rear. and it would just knock once and no more, didnt do it all the time either.
turned out to be a shock loose at the top on the passenger side. so occasionally the shaft would touch the body inside of the ring. to solve it i tightened it up propperly as previous owner didnt!
