I have a 1993 2LT-E turbo diesel automatic. I have a number of problems:
1.I know nothing about cars
2.As I understand it this model has 2 computer systems -1 for the automatic gearbox, the other for the engine. According to my mechanic ( a pessimistic Belgian who came highly recommended) in simple terms these computers are not communicating. The result is that the car does not change gear appropriately, particularly in lower gears. This problem is intermittent suggesting there is nothing inherently wrong with the gearbox itself.
3.In addition more recently the battery keeps going flat suggesting to me at least that something more horribly electric is going on.
4.I am currently living in Malawi, Africa where toyotas are extremely common but parts limited and workshop manuals non-existent. In fact the toyota dealers in malawi are the ones who wrecked the car in the first place.
5.I bought a toyota surf workshop CD on ebay, waited 3 weeks for it to arrive here then discovered it didn't cover diesel ( despite assurances from the seller) I understand that there is no real workshop manual for this model of surf.
I really, really need this car to work and would be really grateful for any advice - particularly regarding where I can get some wiring diagrams/ a reasonable workshop manual for my mechanic before the car drives him, and me, completely crazy.
Hope you can help,
Louisa
