  • rear bearings knock....knock....knock???

as anybody had a rear bearing do this????

ive found a knocking on the rear axle....so up on the stands she goes, removed both wheels and drums cleaned down brakes, thinking it could be a braking issue...put drums and tires back on and laid underneath while rotating the wheels first thought was rear diff but the knock appears to be coming from nearside rear brakes area, so off comes that wheel again and drum had a good look round couldnt find much apart from a bit of movment on the half shaft( push in towards the rear diff then back out ) is this play normal??..

can a bearing make a knocking noise as apposed to a on off droning type noise witch is what you normaly hear....

Movement in and out is a bad thing - it's normally a sign of the bearing starting to fail. With a new bearing there would be no play. The knocking will probably change to a drum or drone as speed increases. Of course the noise will eventually stop - when the halfshaft falls out
