  • Would this be Legal?

I was thinking of swapping the wiring of the side lights with the indicators and fitting clear lenses in the bumper, using amber bulbs throughout. Does anyone know if its legal to have amber front sidelights?

No it's not as far as I am aware. Just use normal bulbs in the sidelights.

if you notice some trucks lit up like xmas trees on m/ways..... look well
impresive..... amber lights front and sides... no red to be shown at front...

only red at rear (apart from reverse and indication )
they also use various other colours at front/side....

see one quite regular on m25 very early hours..... COLES is the company,
with a pointy nose SCANIA.....well nice.......

Check with your local MOT station,The Trattic Officers Companion
deffinition of "front position lamps " clearly states they should be
white in colour unless incorporated in a head lamp which is yellow.
            Regulation 18 scheds 1 and 2 .
If thats any help, or talk to your local Roads Policing (Traffic ) Officers
for advice, saves getting a ticket for it later ?

you can have amber lights on the front, but the actual side lights and headlights should be white.

                I'm a bit congused now.

I reently changed my sidelight bulbs, the little capless ones, with blue ones. I think they look smart against the blue/white light headlight bulbs I have.

I checked it out with my local MoT guy & the local police before (plod is well keen around here, especially if you have led's on your windscreen washers)

The MoT guy said no probs as long as they aren't red, any other colour os OK on the front.

Plod also said blue is OK as long as they don't flash

                sorted

                hope this helps

All Volvo's have the amber marker lights as standard. They may be in addition to normal side lights though.

I have amber bulbs in my side lights and it failed the MOT. Now I just remove them before the test. I guess it tepends on the tester!

Exactly, this is the important bit, as long as you have a white side light of some discription any other aux poser lights are fine, as long as they arn't red.
