  • Diff locks?

Hi I'm a new kid on the block and I'm thinking of changing my Mazda engined Range Rover for a Surf. Can anybody tell me please if diff locks are fitted as standard to any model or is it an exta? Also what's the differance between a Surf and a Hilux Surf? Thanks

Hilux Surf and Surf are the same thing.
Diff locks aren't fitted as standard, but can be retro fitted.
1996 and on Surfs have a center diff which I think can be locked, but I'll let a 3rd gen Surf owner tell you more about that as I have a 2nd gen truck.

Oh, and Hi Newbie, welcome to Surfdom!

As Vince said the 3rd Gen models (96-02) have a lockable centre diff, allowing full time 2wd or 4wd.
Earlier models have no centre diff and are thus partime 4wd only.
No Surfs came with factory-fitted lockable diffs in the axles. Some have LSD's in the rear.
US 4Runner's had an optional electrically operated lockable rear diff after 96
UK 4Runner's (2nd Gen only) had a rear LSD (which do tend to suffer from excessive wear resulting in a normal open diff)

Surf is just a short title for a Hilux Surf.
In markets other than Japan (and one or two other Asian countries I disremember) the Surf is sold as a 4Runner.
