Aircon pump testing

Noticed last night when changing the aircon belt that the aircon pully is free running, when I turned the pump on I expected the pully wheel to engage with the drive wheel on the front of the pump, but this didin't happen and there was no noticable change to the idle speed. Is this faulty or am I barking up the wrong tree, it was too cold to see if the Aircon was working efficiently, but I'm thinking it's not - also too impatient to wait 'til it warms up outside to check! What's the best way to check? Thanks for all the elp so far BTW, promise to sort my subscription out soon!

If the A/C clutch has not locked in like you say it coukld be low on gas , as they will not work unless it has the correct amount of gas . First thing to get checked .

Yup. You should find an air con specialist in your yellow pages. Price range, depends on what type of gas you've got and if you'll need replacement parts. £60---£120.
