  • head gasket and burst rad

I own a 1990 2.4 manual surf, think my head gasket has gone (alot of black smoke coming out of my exhaust) also after popping the bonnet i spotted a small split in the rad. anyone know of cheap place i can take her for repairs in essex/east london ??

    thanks

White smoke usually spells head trouble not BLACK. Head gaskets dont seam to go but the heads can crack.

Black smoke is normaly blocked or very dirty air filter.

        Cylinder Head

        Hi Guys !

I've had a bit of trouble with my Surf. Had to replace the Turbo before Xmas.
Drove to Portsmouth and back, noticed white smoke and suddenly my Rad blew up! My Head gasket has failed and there's a crack in the Head!

Any advise would be much appreciated as my Surf has been outside my garage for 2 weeks??

        Cheers

Sounds like muky air filter to me or fuel pump overfeedin enjin. Small split in rad would result in water loss. are you experiencing water loss or are we talking about fin damage here?
I used to have a surf me!

your white smoke will be the oil shooting into the zorst when the turbo blew. How soon are we talking for the rad to burst? did you drive with blown turbo?

                Hi

The Turbo blew on my way home from work. I wasn't sure it had until the mechanic saw for himself.
This was replaced for new.The rad blew up after about 2 - 3 weeks later!
I checked the water level and it was fine.
