  • Break light on instrument panel

HI Can anyone give me some advice as to why the Break light on instrument panel (1989 2.4) is on all the time?? In the past it would only come on when the Hand Break was in use now it is always on but gets brighter when using the hand break.

Thanks for any help is figuring this out

    Check your Brake Fluid level.

Brake pads too, or the float switch may have stuck. Give the reservoir a tap!

Exactly the same thing started happening with my 91 surf a couple of weeks ago! Sounds like an easy fix - one problem though - I'm not sure what I'm supposed to hit with a hammer!! I'm a total car dunce.

Is it the normal brake fluid container that I should be thumping?

                  Thanks,
                  Fearghal

Yes. No hammer requiered tho' unscrew the cap and lift out the float thats attatched to it and make sure the float can move up and down freely.

while we are the subject of brakes, just ordered new pads and shoes, could someone please tell me how much break fluid i will need to renew the lot.

if the beaks are getting done i might as well change the fluid as well.

o, and do i just ask for break fluid or is it a perticular type?

                      thanks again

                      cheers scotty

                        *bump*

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My brake fluid is at min - that is the reason my light is stayin on I think. Is there any specific type of brake fluid I should be asking for or is it all the same?

                        Cheers!
