  • Newbie, door procedure

Have spent an hour reading a lot of threads concerning window
    stopping/not working properly etc, but.

Is there some kind of timer on its up, (specificallly)
as there always seems to be a delay built in, from physically shutting tailgate, to window closing either on the key or console switch.

(or should I simply be content it works at all)

thanks for any advice in advance
    Richy.

    PS will formatting codes work here IE;
    [big].............[/big]
    ?

Not sure what you mean!! When you shut the tailgate, you have to put the window up manually (on the key or the button inside). AFAIK, the only delay will be how long it takes you to put the key in, or run round to press the button...
    It just does, OK?

      bugger it

Perhaps an electrical gremlin then, Neither option of Key/Switch seems to close the window at once, although opening it is at will, hmmm.
      and another thing!

what does anyone suggest this does please.
It dissapears in the direction of the alarm (aftermarket 'toad')

and do these otherwise appear normal to all here!

      great site BTW very informative.

Panic button for the alarm?? Have you pressed it at all??

The rocker switch could be for the rear fog light?
        It just does, OK?

          Pannic!!!!!

          Sadly not,
pushing it and at same time bracing myself for my ejector seat to work
          pah!

It creates a (relay type click) from somewhere near bulhead in engine compartment but nothing much.

Likewise the rocker produces little of interest either.

My 80' hilux PU ,haden't this level of apparently useless switchgear,
but i'll bet if some of mine worked i'd have enough
to write a country & Western song.

Or am I thinking of the
          Discovery (sorry)

Have you got two batteries? The button could be a manual split charge sort of switch?? Can you locate the relay it switches?

As for the rocker, just keep playing, with lights on and off, engine on and off, etc. and see what happens!!

              charge hmmn

The button does'nt have a label (obviously) and I don't really
see it as some kind of either/or type thing,

more a kind of optional button, sorry this is getting a bit obscure isen't it?

there is however a hole of almost the same button size on picture Two,
(beneath the key hole) is something usually installed there instead.

anyway the window at least works in its own fashion so thats one thing.

Would you please stop pressing that switch, my garden light keeps coming on, and it's confusing the robins!

The round switch is a pretty standard aftermarket jobby for the foglight. most dealers fit that switch there for it.

Yep, thats what I had, before I took it out to fit four switches in the same place.

The other switch on the lead is the 'Valet switch' for the toad. pressing it allows someone to park the car before the alarm arms, without you giving them the alarm control.

Can't remember the sequence for working it but I'm sure you'll find instructions for a Toad on the net. It is also used in programming the delay time etc I think

                        blimey,

                        really.

I've got a couple of unusual features as options on another alarmed car.
but i'd never have thought of that option.

                          Window elecs

                          Had tailgate to bits today,
mechanics all greased up and apparently fine
Tried fooling gate it was closed by flipping both latches closed,
but an alarm sounded in front
is there a further safety thing preventing me trying window (on th flat)

anyway listening while twisting key, causes a slight click, somewhere in the gate, but not sure where.

tried the continuity test earthing, seems fine, resistance wise,
(as in no change open or closed.)

                          Now,
Mate walked over and tried key, and all worked like new!

He went, I bolt it all back together, only to find it not having any of it,

openede it all up again, and still no joy
                          any thoughts?

                          oh PS,

trying to further open an already open window
causes perceptible dimming, of interior light,

twisting key to close it, doesn't cause a flicker

                          Hmmmnn!

                            where exactly

                            do I view these,
I know somewhere in the N/S rear panel, but I see only an empty
                            box

On mine it's tucked right down sort of below the tail-lights, although I think someone else said thiers was below the tool pocket box thing. there is probably enough cable lenght for it to be either.

my money is on a damaged cable in the flexible bit of loom from the tailgate to the body, it is in bit of black flexible trunking with a cover were it goes into the tailgate. that caused wierd erratic stuff - give it a wiggle.

or a bad connection on the rear wiper park switch that stops the window going down when the wiper is on it - give that a wiggle too.
