EGR Mod

Have done the egr mod on a 1990 2.4 manual and things are running well. The engine sounds less tappety and feels nippy enough but still getting a little black smoke under load, is this normal or should it have gone completely.

My mileage is about 85k miles, any thoughts appreciated.

You will always get smoke under acceleration, but other things that cause excessive smoke are dirty air filter and gummed up injectors.
Try some redex in your tank first, don't go by the instructions on the bottle, just chuck it all in your tank.

Vince,you missed out the most vital part of instruction of adding redex......pour it all in at once....
