on tick over my surf has developed a screaching noise raise the tickover to above 1500 and it goes, i have sprayed water and fairy liquid on all the belts(execept cam belt) but its still there my concerns are it maybe something like steering pump, alternator, or water pump. turning electrical items on and off makes no diff. nor does moving steering from side to side so i guess that may rule them out. has anyone experienced any such noises from the cam belt and its tensioners and pulleys.
    any suggestions before i

Could be the harmonic balencer, its the main crank pulley, the outer grooves are rubber mounted to the hub, if the rubber perishes or comes unglued the outer part spins and squeals.

I found it by taking each belt off one at a time, and running it to see where the noise stops, It only shut up after the alternator belts where taken off. Don't run it for long, the water pump won't be going round, just long enough to verify the noise has stopped and isn't something else in the engine.

As Tony is not here (prolly still waving the angle grinder about) I would say cycle through all the gears or take it for a short run and check level is up to max mark with the engine running.
          It's only a hobby!
