  • Help !!!!!!

Firstly, just like to say hi and introduce myself to the forum...... i own a '93 2.4 TD Surf.

Ok .... major problem guys..... I am in the middle of changing the outer CV joint boot. I had to disassemble the joint and in doing so the retaining snap clip broke. The one Toyota has supplied is way to big but they insist that it is the correct one...... question.... does anyone have a schematic drawing showing a cross section of the CV joint please ?
Just to clarify what I am referring to...... its the snap retaining clip that retains the drive shaft within the CV joint itself.
Hope someone can help....because Toyota Exeter are hopeless.

Hi newbie, I can't find the drawing you need, but someone probably will later. There is a couple of photos here if that helps....

If you have the broken circlip (I think that is the technical name) any decent motor factors or fasteners supplier should be able to find one. They are a standard metric size as far as I know.
          It's only a hobby!

Outer joint should never be disassembled unless replacing the CV joint itself. The snap ring will break during the disassembley process. Outer boots should be replaced by removing the inner joint and then sliding boot on from this end.

THIS METHOD IS CORRECT! BUT I HAD TO LEARN THE HARD WAY. HAVING NEVER REPLACED THE RUBBER BOOTS BEFORE I THOUGHT I WOULD SEEK INFO FROM MY BOOK AND THIS IS HOW IT IS SHOWN TO BE DONE AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED AT THE TIME. ONCE I GOT A NEW SNAPRING AND REFITTED THE DRIVESHAFT I HAVE HAD NO REASON TO GO BACK TO THE BOOK AND CHECK TO SEE IF I HAVE MISSREAD THIS INFO AS THE JOB WAS A GOOD-EN..

Well many thanx to all, especially Vince who put me on to Milner who knew exactly what I was talking about and two are now in the post.
I have to say, preaching to the converted maybe, that Toyota GB are utterly incompetant and thoroughly unhelpful. I have own many Toyota's over the years from trucks to sports cars, all have been reliable and a joy to own. Their only downfall has been the service you get or dont get from Toyota.

Anyway, its good to be here, and thanx again for the welcomes.

                  Chris.
