  • loud noise from engine

HI to one and all I have had an on going problems with my surf for months loads of mechanics looked at it scrached there bo***cks and walked away one even had it for three months then DEGGERS put his problem on with the sound track and its the same as mine so I decided to take a look stripped it right down to the belts everything was fine so with nothing to lose of with the head the head valves and so on are fine
So its the crank as I turned the crank slowley no 1 piston has play up and down not slogger in the bore just up and down if you turn the crank so number 1 piston is about half way you can then turn the crank back a good half inch before the piston moves then if you start turning the crank to push the piston back up the bore you again get a good half inch movement before you here it conect and then start moving????????
Just as a point of note I bought my truck in may from cardif and not done a thousand miles in it? and once I started doing the strip down I was terrified to find most thing were only just a bit more than finger tight so I think there might be a muppet mechanic in the cardif area

I get that alot, lots of Surfs I play with have all the hard to get at bolts loose or missing! Scary, but makes taking apart a little easier!

Is it a 2.4 or a 2.8? 2.8s have a bad case of spinning the big end bearing causing a loud high pitched knock. check the top of your pistons for signs of damage as this is a good indication.
