Just purchased my first Surf (2.4 TD) import on a UK "H" plate.
Love it to bits so far but three things I don't understand at present.

1. Low oil pressure reading.
Oil level is fine. on tick over gauge reads right at the bottom, at revs only about 1/3 way up (after first mark).

2. ECT switch - what's it for?

3. Strange twisting knob on lower dash by right knee. What's it do?

Any responses greatly appreciated.

I can answer no-2 for ya

It puts the surf in sports mode.
Also a small button nn the side of gear shift is ya overdrive.
Hope this helps a bit m8.

No3 if it was on the left i would say the hand brake.

twisty knob could be a idle-up control

e.g. acts a bit like a choke - increases revs

i use it when powering tipper trailer - to help alternator out
same would go for winches

also recently used it when jumping starting my dads car which had flat battery
saved having to sit with foot on accellerator

Not on the 2.4 m8 its a push button on the right side along with another for the susspention (think that's how ya spell it lol).

Sounds nearly right.. on tickover it will move very little - Not as far as the first line.. when driving it should be anywhere from 1sr to 3rd line

2. ECT switch - what's it for?

As Falconer said - its sport control... it alters the gear ratio so that it will rev higher on in each gear... its off when out and on when in... you will use a lot more fuel is if have it on all the time.. i only use it if in a hurry or towing

I would also say hand throttle for using a pto.. warming the engine... jump starting... I also have 2.4 with hand throttle on a switch but no knob.. I have seen 2.4 with the knob you are describing though... it was a hand throttle

(1) Oil level may be fine but have you changet it and the filter. Old oil may equal low oil pressure.

(2) As above

(3) Could be another type of Idle Up or a Rehostat that someone has installed to control dash light brightness.Surfs don't have these as standard.

Yes, it does'nt seem to do much just an ever so small change in engine note but no increased revs

This could be a bit far out... Do you know forsure that it has aways had a diesel engine... they do make surf's with a petrol and therefore would have a choke aswell as hand/elec throttle

I am probably a bit off the mark but if it did prev have a petol engine that could explain it???????????????????????????? ?????????????????????
