  • switch near thermostat

hi people hope someone can help me out there, just bought a 91 surf 2.4 tdi ,while servicing it i noticed that an electric switch on the thermostat housing was broken its next to the temp gauge sender .ive tried jemca toyota and jap spares they have both drawn a blank they cant tell me what it does ,and on the computer file it only shows the sender and a level sensor but this is shown as not applying to my model.hopefully someone knows what this is, as i said it screws into the housing about 2 inches infront of the temp sender think its grey (thats the bit thats missing) and it has one terminal in it (its a thin blade terminal like on a elec fuel injector) cheers recovereruk

Try your Toyota main dealer. If they are as helpful as our local the guy will lift the bonnet and have it identified in 5 mins.

I don't know if our Toy dealer is unique but they have an EPC disk with all the non-European models.
    It's only a hobby!

It controls the electric fan, if you dissconnect it with the motor running the fan should come on.

If its this one then as said, it is for the fan.

On the 1991 2.4 surf, this switch cuts out the air con compressor and fan at a certain temp.
I bridged mine to ground and the air con doesn't cut out. To test, run the air con, confirm the compressor is turning and remove the wire or short to ground

Good pic Nev. At least I know the one I picked up this morning is the right colour. 24Hr service from Steven Eagell Toyota, £24 'ish including VAT.

I am so pleased that they have done away with the stupid connector (which caused me to break it in the first place) and gone for a standard spade.
