  • stuck in 4wd...... help!!

hi all, whilst checking over my new surf (1991 2.4 ssrg) i put it into 4wd via the button and on came the dash light and seleniod click, it went straight into 4wd no problem. press said button again, and nothing only a slight click from under the drive gear selector. what ever i have tried it does'nt make any difference, still in 4wd. i had to drive it about 2 miles (gingerly) to get home but will need it for work !! any ideas what it could be or where to look?
could the box be stuck in some way through lack of use by the previous owner?
any sugestions welcome as i'm bolloxed otherwise!!

    thanks in advance.

Have you tried reversing it, it could be stuck, give the soloniod on the back of the transfer case a tap with a hammer, the same for the ADD actuator on the front axle.

But first try going backwards and forwards, on both steering locks to try and get it out.

Also make sure the button the gearlever isn't stuck in.

Have you tried deselecting 4WD and pulling forward, then back while keeping the wheels straight. Sometimes they can be a little stubborn if the drive train has wound up. Failing all the above, try the same on some soft, loose ground.

      Good luck.

        sorted!

tried all the above two or three times to no avail, then put into drive, slowly rolled forward in a straight line, wacked it into reverse whilst rolling forward and gave it some boot!! not to good for the gear box, but got it out of 4wd!!
i'll have a look again tommorow in the daylight and try the 4wd to see if it does it again.
        many thanks for the response!!
