    Hi All,

Am looking for some help relating to the brakes on my 92 2.4 ln130.

Whenever I brake I get this horrible grinding noise - I think it is the brake pads.... I have purchased a new set for the front axel. Was going to fit them last night but when started the engine and tried to pull off the drive the brake light on the dash was on perminantly which makes me think that it could be hydrollic.

What are your thoughts on this???????

Finally how easy is it to change brake pads - is it somthing I should try myself

    Thanks

    Joe

If the front is grinding you may have scored the discs. If not too bad they can be machined or otherwise you are up for new disc rotors.Removal requires the bearings and hub removed because the rotors are attached via internal bolts to the hub.Don't drive it or you will do more damage.

The brake warning light is for the hand brake, but it will also light up if you are low on fluid.
If it remains illuminated when you release the handbrake, but goes dim, the float is probably sticking in the reservoir, a common fault.

Or could be that the front brakes are so low that the fluid level has dropped as the pistons have moved out to take up the slack. As Bushwacker says, the light staying on on the dash is either handbrake on or low fluid level. The brake pad warning is a metal tab on the brake pad which grinds agains the disk to make a squealing noise.

I could really do with using the surf asap - as i sad have new brake disks ready to go - will just changing the disks be ok - even if only a temp fix - how easy is it to just change disks???

          thanks

Its easy to changes the pads, 2 pins hold them in. To change the discs you need to undo the drive plates and wheel bearings and pull the hub off, then unbolt the disc and replace.

Do you have new pads or discs or both? You could just replace the pads but if the discs are scored then that will ruin the new pads fairly quickly and braking may be adversely affected. If you replace or machine the discs at a later stage then you really should replace the pads again.

I meant pads... don't have new disks - I have only done about 15 miles with them grinding - got home form work then parked it up and left it... think the disks will be ok... will change the pads tonight and u[date...

                thanks all

If you find uneven wear on the pads, which is possible, then this is caused by the pistons in the calipers sticking. This happened to mine and inner pad, passenger side was gone completely while the other three were only half worn.I only drove a short distance as well but the disc was still scored.I had them machined and rebuilt the calipers and installed all new seals.

Hi All - Am having probs -

Have got the old brake pads off no prob... trying to put the new ones on but they dont seem to fit.

When I try to get the 2 pins to go back through they dont end up in the right place - i.e wont go through th caliper on the far side..

The New pads are toyota gen so there cant be anything wrong there

                            the pins aren't bent

                            Has anyone got any suggestions

                            Thanks

                            Joe
