Hi, I have a surf 2.4 and it has a few minor issues.

1. the engine check light has come on a few times and now the fuel filter light is on - I guess this just means change the fuel filter.
2. the engine idles up and down when parked. Dunno what this could be.

As I am pretty non-technical I was wondering if anyone can recommend a garage in Pembrokeshire or even South Wales that knows about Surfs. The Toyota dealer (FRF) said they wanted £300 to examine the vehicle before carrying out any work!

The fuel filter light suggests you've got a build up of water in the filter. It's a quick cheap job to change the filter yourself. Order a filter kit (oil air fuel) off Milners and do the whole job yourself for about £35 including the oil change.

Check the search function above as there's loads of advice on here as to how to do it yourself. £300 sounds like a rip-off so I'd avoid that garage for anything.

followed some instructions elsewhere on the site about draining the filter - worked like a charm.

A local garage reckoned that the idling could be ecu related - would disconnecting the batts for a bit help or would that do more harm than good?
