  • Head gasket trouble again!!

Hi All I have had a very interesting experience Flew down to Middle England from West Highlands 2 days ago and purchased a surf off of Ebay seller who seemed like a genuine kind of fella. I drove my nice shiney surf all the way home to Scotland but when I stopped at services I saw loads of steam coming from the bonnet. This was from a pipe leading from the thermostat housing to the expansion bottle.

I took off the filler cap when the engine had cooled to find no anti freeze coolant Which seemed evident when I purchased motor, just rusty water in its place. I didn't cook the engine temp was normal but It has been sent to toyota main dealer for repair since I thereafter noticed clouds of white steamy stuff coming from the exhaust and the top hose seemed fit to explode with the tremendous pressure it was under.

I thinks the guy saw me coming Garage recon £1000 to put right but they don't know where to get the head kit since this engine they say doesn't exist in this country also anyone know the torq sequence etc for the head
is it the same as a standard 4x4 hilux pickup sold by toyota in this country?

This seems the place to be can anyone tell me where I could get a new engine if required need to prepare myself for the worst?

Last of all if the head gasket is repaired will it be reliable "done properly"? I was always told if head gasket has been changed walk away cos it can only mean trouble later on.

Looking forward to expert advice. Cheers Guys gals.

Guys If the head needs replacing I take it the only solution is an origional via Stevo.

Does anyone offer transportation I think When I speak to Toyota Inverness I will be removing the Surf to a surf friendly type person to carry out the repair if toyota want £1000s labour to change gasket plus parts!!!!!!!!!!! then maybe it would be worth paying transpot costs to take her down south especially if its got sod all to do with gaskets and a new head willbe charged on top of that sum.

I appreciate all help you can offer : and I think I am getting the hang of this computer stuff found out how to search, didn't realise how much head stuff was on the forum %^&**" marvelous. Now I think I understand what my kids meant by surfing the net. If I'd known I wouldn't have bored you all Sh¬*less with my introduction I thought I was the first head basket so many cases been heard so many time before.I only started to use the computer co's my kids said I'd find the answer here so I am fumbling with a key board for the first time !

I hope for me there is only one I'd hate this to be diagnosed as repetitive head syndrome.

Ok now sorted Steve has arranged transport and will collect over weekend and have repairs done by 1st weekend in Oct trusting that he doesn't find anything else wrong ie block problems.

Inverness garage were happy to have job taken away and won't charge for storage.

Thanks for removing headache folks magic things these computers I think it's a brilliant way to connect people.

By the time it's repaired I will have paid a lot more than I was intending but now think I will still have a lot of motor for the cash.

Cheers all now have to convince my better half that I'm doing the right thing.
