  • Just blown my engine on the motorway!!

was doing about 80 on the motorway and accidently clicked my overdrive button off. It felt like putting your car into 3rd gear at 80mph.About 20 seconds after, a pop came from under the bonnet and there was steam everywhere. The temp gauge was reading very high.
I looked under the bonnet and found that the hose that connects to the rad was off. I connected it back up and let it tickover for a min. It seemed fine so i slowly headed for the next juntion, smoke was coming out of the exhaust and then it cut ot. There was steam and smoke from under the bonnett.

I`m guessing the head or gasket has gone. Anyone have any rough ideas on prices for repair.

    Its a k reg 2.4 td

    many thanks

Depends who does it - around £1000 for a fitted head - almost certainly not just the gasket on a 2.4.

Probably a lot more than it would have been if you'd waited and put some water in it first

You mean 4wd button? you can press the 4wd button up to 50mph.

ive done similer shifting to "2" or turning O/D off and it wouldnt change down until the speed dropped a bit before redlining in the next gear down.

Yeah, they have a safety back up, but sounds like the motor was about to let go anyway, Chesire Cat just helped it on its way when the motor hit the red line.
