  • overheating too!

Hello Everyone, i've got a 2.4 surf 93, bought it last week, overheated on the motorway (on the way home) took if for a service, got it all flushed out, replaced the rad cap, replaced the thermo, got the garage to do a pressure test, no loss of pressure, so hopefully that rules the head out! took it out last night, 10 mile run at a constant 60mph, overheated again, started it up again this morning with the heaters on (they didnt get warm by the way) and the rad cap off, no water came out so again hopefully the head aint gone. does anyone know what else it could be, hopefully it might just be an air lock but i aint sure, there is no white smoke blowing out either. The cold air blowing it a bit worrying, but i guess i can wear a jacket! any help or advice would be fantastic for this newbie!

Was coolant level to top of rad cap, if heaters are not getting hot then i would say an air lock or stat. If heaters were hot then I would look at viscous fan, rad cap etc.

If there is a concern of air in the system or incomplete filling then when the engine is cold turn the heaters on and take the rad cap off. Start the engine and top up the system. The water pump will move coolant through the system external to the engine and ensure it's full. Fill the overflow tank half full. Put the rad cap on and rev the engine up to temperature. If the thermostat is working properly it will open and the engine will fill with coolant. Shut the engine off and when it's all cooled pop the rad cap and check the level once again.

      Could the the thermostat.
Could be the waterpump, if it's drawing air through the seal it will just cavitate and pressurize the system.
No heat sounds almost like a plugged heater core.

Hello again, i've just left it running and the heater is now blowing hot, so i'm guessing it could be the fan, think i read somewhere that it should be hard to move with the engine off, well mine moves with a little push of my finger, think maybe it aint working properly and in turn not cooling down, also i forgot to mention this before but the radiator isnt warm at the bottom, just the top part. i need help

Rad will generally be cold at the bottom

When the engine is hot, the fan should be difficult to spin or locked with the engine shut off. If it's completely freewheeling then the clutch is most likely gone.

The fan probably needs new oil. They loose it over a period of time and need to be refilled. The fan has to be split to do this.
