  • oil in water...

my hoses are contaminated due to thick black stuff in water dont know if oil or emission stuff the engine runs fine with usual power but i only bought the car 2 weeks ago and because i wasnt sure when last oil change was done i put an oil treatment additive in plus about 1 litre of oil...
the dipstick (maybe me) shows just slightly over full by about 1 mm would this cause oil to enter my water system????
there is some black smoke but no more than you would see from a black cab in town and only when you rev to about 3500 rpm but not constant smoke
it starts on the button and runs lovely
anybody able to help me please
    thanks

If you dont know when last oil change was done - why not change it now? Make sure you undo the CORRECT plug - most people empty the auto transmission first time round -

Overfilling is not generally a good idea though.

There have been a couple of people on here with that fault and it was found to be the headgasket seal on the oil way failing . This let oil pressure blow by into the coolant . No cure but a new headgasket and associated parts .

Take it back to the dealer but do not mention the oil additive . 1 mm oil over the limit is no worry and would not cause any probs .
3 month warranty by law on the vehicle . Take it back and ask for it to be repaired under warranty or money back or a like for like vehicle without the fault .

No real long term cure then a new gasket , if it definatley is confirmed the gasket at fault . Only other cause of oil in coolant maybe the 'sandwich block' fitted to some Surfs for the oil cooler pipes . I believe this is fitted behind the oil filter on some Surfs . If this corroded through internally , then again oil could push into coolant . Depends on year of Surf . Only seen 1 , but there are some others out there .

I suggest you take it to a cooling system specialist and ask their opinion.Someone has possibly added some cooling system sealer to it and the cooling system may just need a good flush out to get rid of all the residual gunk.

              thanks guys

i have got the car in the garage to have the water system flushed and a proper oil and filter change also to have some gasket sealer put in the system, hopefully this will cure the problem...
can anyone tell me the total cost(approx) parts labour etc of a head gasket change and someone near essex who knows their stuff and i can trust to do a good job??
              thanks for all your help

It takes me a good long day to get a head off and put back, I normally allow time next day so not to rush things.

So labour charges are gonna be a bit.
