  • Turbo timer

Morning all, now im a new comer to the pleasures of the surf and hence a little uneducated on what certain things do on them. So can anyone tell me what an after market turbo timer does and how you use one? The one fitted to mine is a little black box with numbers 0.5-5 and an off button...
    Once again thanks all

Hi and welcome. The Turbo Timer is basically there to allow the engine to run on for a while (the numbers adjust the time period) after the ignition is switched off. This allows the turbo to cool down a bit after a run as you should not turn the engine off direct after a high speed run as the turbo could be damaged. This is because the moment the engine stops, oil pressure and water circulation stops but the turbo is still hot and can actually burn the oil because of the heat and it then cakes the inside of the turbo with thick gunk which has no lubricatio properties.

Only thing wrong with them is hat it is illegal in this country to leave an engine running in a car that is not attended so if you have the time set for 5 minutes, you need to sit in the car for 5 minutes (or stand next to it) until the engine shuts down.

Some Turbo timers also have a remote start feature which allows you to start the car from inside the house to warm it up on a cold day (that's quite usefull except that it is not recommended practice to warm a car up idling).

    Cheers

more useful on high performance motors where the turbo glows red when you stop... but even on trucks they recommend a period of idling to cool it down... mind you, they have turbos the size of dustbins!
nee nar nee nar, i'm a fire engine!
