    Hi

I had a problem with my 1993 2.4td auto. After having the diesel timing re adjusted and a new timing belt fitted, the loud knocking noise problem was solved.

However, I have now noticed that when I am driving gently without any turbo boost the speedo reaches 70 mph without any hassle, as soon as you try to floor the peddle, after 40 mph or engaging top gear, the car looses power the check engine light comes on.

I have carried out a diagnostic on the ecu and I am getting a code 12 timer control valve. There is no smoke or unusual noises, the car had recently had a full service.

    Any ideas

    help please.

First thing I would do would be disconnect the batteries for 15 mins to reset the ECU. Problem is that with the diesel pump timing out the ECU would have learnt to compensate (this is presuming the batteries weren't disconnected when the pump and belt were done).

It now needs to go back to normal and resetting in that manner is the quickest way to do it. This may be causing the code 12. Apart from that I'm not quite sure what the timer control valve is but presume it is run by the ecu to adjust pump timing under load in which case it will be in the pump and it will need to be removed to overhaul. However this is purely guess work on my part.

I've already reset the ecu, but, it still comes up with code 12, and the problem persists.
