  • Wheel/tyre sizes

    Hi
I now have my new 2.4 LTE surf. Its great! Problem is the tyres and wheels.
The tyres fitted are 33 X 12.5 X 15R BF Goodrich tyres. They are massive! But look the business!
The spare wheel is smaller and so if i get a flat, i cant use it.
Toyota uk seem pretty useless, but can anyone suggest either what the size of the wheel rim should be for the BF tyres (so i will get a new spare rim and tyre to match the others) or what size the standard rims and tyres are ( so i would get a new new set of rims and tyres to match the smaller spare.
Plus can anyone tell me if having the bigger tyres effects my MPG?
Also what is the little red button at the front of the gear selector is? (just above park position)
    Many Thanks

    Jimmy,

The rims should have a size stamped in them, it will read something like 15 7.5J offset 8, 15 is the dia, 7.5j is the width (needed for wider tyres) and the offset speaks for itself, as for the red button......I could tell ya...... but will get you to use the search as its been covered on here lots, just try "red button".

      Thanks Rob!
Do you think the wider tyres will fit on the standard rims?
If not do yo think the best bet is to search for the same rim at a wreck yard?
Do you think the bigger tyre reduces MPG - i think i get about 32MPG on motorway...is that good?
I will get to grips with the search!

I suppose while im here i have another few questions.
When i turn the wheels fully from one side to the other when turning a small circle i get this clunking sound. It is NOT in 4wd. Does anyone know why this could be. is it related to the bigger wheels fitted?
I also see that the diff can be locked at the back (not the front). How do i know if it is locked or unlocked. Could this be while i get the clunking?
          cheers

If I drive like I have Miss Daisy in the back I may get 28 MPG.......If your figures are right then stick with the bigger tyres!

Again MPG is a major topic on here and has been discussed so much we could start a forum just for that!

The bigest tyres on standard rims are 31x10.5x15, go larger and you need a lift, maybe worth checking to see if you have a lift already, again have a play with the search and you will find what the measurements are for the standard Surf.

            Happy searching

For the clunk......check out the FAQ's and get a tub of grease, (your'll get what I mean).

Not sure about the diff lock as the 2nd gen's don't have one

Update your Vehicle details in your profile so we know what you got.

clunk on full lock = end stops, time to grease your fingers up

red button lets you select a gear with the eng off, usefull for if you want to roll it back a bit without the eng on,

Post a piccy of this vehicle and we can see the wheels and tyres fitted . I would almost certainly think its had some sort of lift or someones used a hammer on the footwheels to allow those 33's to clear on turning .

                      Heres a pic.
                      Its a 2L LTE - 1991
                      Does this help?
Yes i think there was some work to fit the wheels in.

I try and work it out for how many kms per 50 litres,
if I do 400km (pleased if i do) then thats 23mpg ish
if I do 300km (just done one tank like that and this one aint too much better) then thats 17mpg ish

Means im getting 20-26, less of the latter. Still - who cares!
