just bought am 2,4 the old owner says that it has had the modified head but they have no receipt,how can i be sure........

You can't, there are no external indications or markings to differentiate between the original and the modified design.

I'm afraid the short answer is you cant.

did they fit it themselves?? if garage ask which one and check it out. If they fitted it themselves ask where & when it was purchased, you got the previous owners name and address so could ring company to find out.

I had a look at a Surf a dealer was selling it was having a good second hand head fitted. Did not buy that One
