  • Hub lock

sorry to be asking so many questions today but i have so many questions about the Surf and i only found this forum today

I have a SSR limited 2.4 auto and i didnt think it had hublocks as there was no switch on the hub itself but i read somewhere it has a live hub and it locks the fronts automaticly when you engage 4WD is this correct?

    Cheers

Hi Steve - welcome to the Forum.

Yes you are right about the 4WD system - see attchment on the Toyota ADD system.
I have a 95 3lt Surf but I think the system is the same on both.
You can engage 4W high on the move at up to 60mph via the button on the side of the transfer lever. To engage 4W low you need to stop, select neutral then use the transfer lever to engage 4W Low then back into drive and away. The Surf uses a vacum system to engage the front drive at the diff so there is no need to manually lock the hubs.
Point to remember though is don't use 4WD on dry tarmac as there is no centre diff on 1st and 2nd Gens and doing so will result in transmission wind up.
    Happy Surfing
