  • More MPG + More HP

For a week or so I have been trying out somthing that I got of ebay (a ball baring ) witch you put into the pipe going to the ERG valve this stops the ERG valve from opperating witch increases MPH + HP I am not sure how it works but I've noticed that I am geting 150 Ks extra to a tank full of fuel. And the car seems to have a bit more punch in it. I only got around 400Ks to a tank full but now I am getting more.

Maybe some of you cleaver fellows out there might investergate or might know if the are any probs with doing this mod to the engine.

    Sorry about the spelling.

    Steve.

Use the search function, and search for EGR, it's been discussed more than a couple of times.

Yup- a search on EGR would have saved you the fiver that 'scammer' charges!

My EGR mod cost, er, nothing. I used a company issue cable tie. I don't know how that scammer gets away with it. I have only seen one Surf belching, "Black smoke."

Reminds me of the guy who placed, "How to save a fortune, just send a 50p Postal Order." It was during high unemployment during the early/mid 80s. All you got for your money was a compliment slip saying, "Stop sending chancers like me 50p - wise up."
        It's only a hobby!

steve, dont feel to bad, 'hundreds sold' the bloke claims. just a shame they didnt look on here first. there is also a 30 quid 'tuning chip' on e bay thats probably best avoided... read up on here and youwill find all amnner of ways to make your surf faster/ better cooler....could be worse,at least the ball bearings doing no harm..

I remember a similar ad in news papers in the 90s - 'Cut your phonebill - Guaranteed, just send £9.99 to...'. What you got back was 'Phone 150, and tell them you want to cease your telephone service.'

It works by stopping the EGR working, under load when combustion temps are highest, the EGR lets exhaust gas into the intake to cool combustion and reduce NoX emissions which are bad for all the little bunnys and other furry animals.

Most people just pull the pipe and fold it over with a cable tie, or screw a bolt in the end, what ever version, it just stops the EGR working and seals the vacuum system.

Some people say by stopping the EGR working, your increasing cylinder head temps and therefore risking a cracked head. but its very subjective, and all UK Toy deisels, 2.4 pickup motors and 3.0lt 4Runners don't have a EGR fitted in the first place.

If the EGR vavle its self is jammed open, the car will still run like crap, if it's jammed shut you won't notice any difference, if it was working OK, you should notice an improvement in performance under load or high speeds.

The guy on ebay is just making cash. Its annoying when you find out the solution isn't new, he probably read on here! but not as annoying as the millions of threads we had about it awhile back, Morr's head nearly unscrewed!!!!

(there you go, a restrained answer instead of the normal buggering about! )

                      Steve, don't forget what Oscar Wild once said;
"experiance is the name that most people give to their bad mistakes"

Therefore without people making mistakes, we wouldn't have experiance !!!

                      Regards
                      Mike
