Usin Oil

Ive got a 1989 2.4 manual and it seems to burns oil , but only when i,m goin downhill foot of the gas ,i blip it and big puff of blue smoke out the back.
ive been told its the valve stem oil seals not seated correctly.
Does this sound like the case and has anybody else out there have the same problem
Can these be changed easily ? or is it a major head off job .
It got a new head 1 year ago (5000 miles)

It could be the seals, more likely to be worn than not seated, unless they have been changed lately (just noticed you said the head was done last year!).

Could just as easily be rings or worn bores though check the rocker cover vent pipe and pre turbo side of the intake for oil meaning excess crankcase pressure, or turbo oil seal leaking, in which case check the intake from the turbo to the manifold for oil.

Or Headgasket leaking.

Its a new headgasket which was replaced when the head was done Its also had a reconn turbo in July 2004 so i assume the turbo seals should be okay, its weird putting my foot down on flat no blue smoke up hill foot down no blue smoke it doesnt seem to burn oil under load just if you blip it on a down hill
As long as i keep an eye on the oil i assume itll just be a pain as opposed to damaging the engine and also annoying for the person behind me .
Its just passed an MOT so the emmissions are okay
