  • 3.0td import storage time

Hi all,im a new member to the forum and soon to be a ex trooper owner.in my short time looking at surfs it looks like the 3.0td ssrg 95 onwards is a safe bet.question 1, is how long from the time an import is in a "compound"in japan to the time it is at the importer in the uk?question 2,more importantly apart from the general care of any diesel what are the must and never do's with 3.otd surfs engine and transmissions. Thanks for reading and any response will be appreciated. My current trooper is a mk1 2.8td and want a more modern 4x4,but not a 3.0 or 3.1 trooper because they go bang!

    welcome to the forum Herman,

q1: long enough for the tyres to go out of shape/distort/crack etc

    q2:must do,s-
grin when in it, you won,t be able to help yourself any way
    regular servicing and oil changes
and most important, GET IT MUDDY

not much help, i know, but the 3.0 litre is fairly bombproof as far as i know, i,m sure the 3.0ltr owners will tell you more.

I junked the Jap tyres when I got mine

I also got the Stereo changed

And I happily apply the Surf Skin Creme (Mud )

If you get a 2nd Gen remember stay in 2wd on the roads / hard stuff unless icy.

The Gen 2 is selectable 4WD - there is no centre diff so shouldn't be used on dry tarmac - which is not really a problem as what would you want 4WD for on dry tarmac. 4WD high can be selected on the move up to 60mph via the button on the side of the High/Low shift lever, so if you come to a slippy road. snow etc. you don't have to stop and lock-up hubs etc. Some have LSD's - Limited Slip rear Differentials so again can manage well on slippy roads without 4WD.
4WD Low requires that you stop, select neutral, then 4WD Low and back into drive again - same to go back to 2WD. - again no hubs to lock/unlock.

Gen 3 does have a centre diff so can be used in 4WD all the time if required
