  • A whole pile of questions I'm afraid..........

Hi there, hope it's OK to put all of these together!

    1. How do you go about replacing the bulbs in the rear licence plate lights? I removed the 2 screws and thought that the cover would just come away but it doesn't and I don't want to give it too much force and snap it.

    2. I pulled up outside a mates yesterday and he came out to admire the new beast, only to find a load of water pouring out from underneath. I found the source under the bonnet - a short pipe coming out of the passenger compartment bulkhead on the near side. I imagine it's the air conditioning drain and nothing to worry about - please tell me I'm right! I've checked all the levels and it's not lost a drop of oil/water.

    3. Curiosity here - by the sunroof there is a "card holder" which has a hole in it. There's a slotted bolt recessed inside. I'm guessing here, but is that for a manual overide for the sunroof?

4 The windows in my car have some funny looking glass in them which even when cleaned looks rain spattered. The stamp on the glass says Toyota Temperlite - it looks like columns and columns of small (2 mm across) dried rain spatters. I was wondering whether it is the remnants of some sort of protective sunscreen laminate which has corroded over time.

    5. What should the oil pressure reading be when going along? Mine tends to sit to the right hand side of the block on the left, if that makes sense.

    6. The rear door. My electric demist element isn't working either, but I've read here that I can expect to find the wires come loose. Whilst I'm fixing that there's something else I might need to look at. If I insert my key in the lock to wind the window down when it's fully retracted is the door lock supposed to rise also? Mine doesn't, I have to reach inside and lift the catch before I can open the door. When I wind the window up it does lower the catch successfully.

    7. The ride. On some surfaces it's pretty turbulent, mostly through the steering wheel and the front end and especially when doing 70mph or so on the motorway. Is that normal?

That's it for now, I really appreciate any help with all of this, many thanks.

rear mounted spare or spare underneath? The fittings are different

      should be aircon condensation drain

the card holder is because in the US the police dont like you going for your licence in the glove compartment in case you got a gun in there, so Mr Toymoda kindly put a licence holder in the roof, and yeah - the hole is do sunroof manually

probably remains of metalised window tint. shd be able to get it off with nail varnish remover and elbow grease and get them retinted.

yes thats what its supposed to do - doesnt lift automatically.

could be wheels need balancing, or shocks need replacing (common on these trucks), or steering stabiliser

        Hi Linda & Richard

The spare is mounted under the car.

Where did you get the diagram for the oil pressure guage? Thanks for that - very useful. Mine might be a little low - I'll have to keep an eye on that.

        What's a steering stabiliser?

Many thanks for all your help.

It's a shock absorber bolted to the steering mechanism to stop any bumps, etc getting fed back to the steering wheel. It lays across the vehicle just below the engine.

Polite bump! Anyone know how I remove the licence plate light enclosure to replace the bulb? My spare is located under the car.

            Cheers

After removing the screws you need to insert something thin between light assembley and bodywork and lever the light assembley toward the centre of vehicle. There are two pins on the light which press into a couple of rubber mounts.I used a plastic kitchen spatula. They can be a bit difficult to remove the first time but once you see how they fit then it's easy.

Thanks Neville, I'll give that a go. Wasn't sure whether to be prising the assembly straight away from the body of the car or sideways as you've said. Thanks.

re your rear window heating element, if like mine there will be more than one fault
                  1 terminals unbonded from glass
2 flexible wires from glass to loom no longer flexible so snapped
Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell
